unexpected truths

Human reason tells us that certain truths are "self-evident"—obvious, logical, and visible to anyone observing the world around us. But Lutherans recognize that the most vital biblical truths are not self-evident at all. In fact, Scripture often completely upends human expectations.

The Bible teaches that humanity is deeply broken by sin, that salvation can never be earned through human effort, and that God delivers full forgiveness and eternal life through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. How do we know these truths? They are not discovered by human reason alone, but are graciously revealed to us by God in His Word.
